Hello friends of Sow’s Ear Studio. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Rosemary is having knee replacement surgery on Monday November 10, 2014. This has been long due. After the surgery, Rosemary will be out of commission for three months. While Rosemary is recovering, she’ll be in the shop painting accessories. If you have any furniture to be painted, let her know. I wanted to inform everyone, so if you wanted to book an appointment for work in your home, it’s not gonna happen, until late winter, early spring. Rosemary is booked, working in people’s homes from now until the surgery.
For the last couple of weeks, Rosemary has been in and out of the shop and we haven’t had much new things to post to Sow’s Ear Studio, so I decided to post a TBT photo until we start working on new things again here. Just to let you know, we’re closed this coming Saturday and the following Saturday for Labor Day weekend. Today’s photo was taken February 1992, celebrating Maude’s surprise birthday party. For most of you who don’t know Maude, her real name was Antoinette. This is my mom and my Uncle Larry’s mother, aka my grandmother. My grandmother was in remission with her cancer, and we decided to throw a surprise birthday party for here. It was so much fun. Since Maude has passed away, her spirit, charm, and wit is still with us. I wish she was here to see Sow’s Ear Studio and this wonderful shop that Rosemary started in February of 1998. She would’ve been proud.
Not to alarm anyone, but Sow’s Ear Studio has been CLOSING the last few Saturdays and will be CLOSED this Saturday because we’re currently purging at home. We’ve been giving things to good will, throwing out old things, and we’ve been keeping old family photos, like this one right here. This photo was taken when we were living in Vooreesville, New York. It’s amazing of the things that you store away for so long, and you find them and it’s like, oh my god. I decided that this is the best photo for throw back Thursday today.
It’s not a painting, it’s not a mural, it’s not a faux finish, it’s not a piece of painted furniture, it’s old sewing patterns. Back in the day, before becoming an artist, Rosemary did lots and lots of sewing. So much sewing, she filled a whole box of sewing patterns. Rosemary created Halloween costumes, to baby clothes, to clothes, and all for Lauren. As we were cleaning things and finding things to give to good will, to keep, and to throw out, Rosemary found these sewing patterns. Today’s Throw Back Thursday, and this to me, is art. Handmade clothes, all sewn by hand.
We closed the shop yesterday to go and clean out our storage unit yesterday. We wanted to give away the old stuff and see what was worth keeping. While we were emptying out the storage unit, I found this canvas painting my mother did when she was studying at New Paltz. It’s a painting she did when she was in one of her painting classes. This painting was created in 1968. Mom wanted to get rid of it, I told her I wanted to keep it.
Hello friends of Sow’s Ear Studio. Just to let everyone know we’re CLOSED Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, and Mon for observance of 4th Of July weekend. Our etsy shop will remain open. Lauren currently has her beaded and polymer clay jewelry up for sale on Sow’s Ear Studio right now. Rosemary and Lauren are researching shipping costs for shipping Rosemary’s painted furniture and more. Rosemary and Lauren are hoping to have painted furniture and painted accessories on etsy soon. Stay tuned for more great items to be uploaded on Sow’s Ear Studio’s etsy shop.
For the past couple of weeks, this bathroom door has been sitting on Rosemary’s table waiting to be completed. Well, Rosemary finally added the final touches to the door and the door was picked up yesterday afternoon. This is a mirror finish design. Painted with a color called Raspberry Truffle, this door is beautiful and will look terrific in Plum And Crimson Fine Interior Design’s new showroom. Rosemary is in and out of the shop most of the week and Lauren is in her place. Stop in and say hello.
Outside our shop is beautiful, lush, and full of color. We’re going to trim back a little bit, but our garden is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen since spring-summer 2014 has arrived. Just to let you know, Rosemary is out on job site until Friday and will be back on Saturday. If you have any questions, give her a call on her cell phone. Lauren is at the shop until Friday. Stop by and say hello and grab an awesome handmade gift today.
What another beautiful day for our Strawberry Fest 2014 on Upper Union Street in Schenectady. Sow’s Ear Studio has had a lot of people come in and look around and the street has been jumping with people. We love participating in this yearly event. We’re here until 3p.m. today, so stop in and say hello.
Now that spring is over, it’s time to get ready for the summer. Rosemary stopped at Michael’s Stores to pick some artificial flowers for our hanging baskets outside the shop. Rosemary is currently getting the baskets ready for Strawberry Fest tomorrow. Stay tuned to see what these baskets look like tomorrow.
Rosemary Prock of Sow’s Ear Studio has been researching the past couple of weeks for new, fresh, ideas for the shop, furniture, murals, & faux finishes. Rosemary came across this unique paint called Chalk Paint. So she called a few places & came across a distributor in Bennington, Vermont. On Memorial Day, the Sow’s Ear Studio family took a trip to Bennington, Vermont. The distributor was in an antique store. We looked at the antiques, bought the paints, a book on how to use the paints, & had a good day in Vermont. Stay tuned to see what Rosemary is going to do with these paints.
Rosemary has been enjoying her painting and got a good clean bill of health on her wrist. Rosemary doesn’t need to wear the removable brace anymore, but still needs to take it easy with lifting items and climbing a ladder. This is a fairy door for a long time client. Rosemary adds the finishing touches, as Lauren sneaks a picture in for the blog and fan page.
Lauren has also taken the time to rearrange the shop and clean the windows and the outside of the shop. Just to remind you that Upper Union Street’s Strawberry’s Fest is Saturday June 14, 2014. Stay tuned for a reminder & some great photos from Strawberry Fest 2014.
Sow’s Ear Studio is well known for it’s great gifts, gift baskets, and much more. Mother’s Day is coming up soon and now’s the time to buy a great gift for mom on mother’s day. We have a wide variety of picture frames, painted accessories, gift baskets, and much more. This lovely bird feed gift basket is just a perfect example of one of the great gifts to buy mom for Mother’s Day. We’re open until 4p.m. today, so stop in and say hello.
Rosemary and Lauren would like to say sorry for the way the back of the shop looks today. Our near and dear friends from Plum And Crimson Fine Interior Design dropped off this huge door for their showroom that’s currently be refinished right now. Rosemary of course will be doing a magnificent design. This door is currently on the top of our table in the back of the shop (in front of the electric fire place). Stay tuned for the results of this door soon.
As artists, Rosemary and Lauren are proud supporters of making handmade items, buying handmade items, and supporting handmade. If you love handmade, you’ll agree. Rosemary and Lauren are currently working on getting the rest of their etsy shop set-up and configured. Rosemary will be selling her hand painted furniture, painted accessories, and Lauren will continue to sell her beaded and polymer clay jewelry as well. Support handmade and your local artists today.
Spring has finally sprung as far as Rosemary & Lauren are concern. All of the beautifully, painted spring eggs, baskets, glass balls, and more are on the pussy-willow tree in front of the shop. Stop by Sow’s Ear Studio and see what we can do for you this spring. These are just a few of the things that are on the tree right now. Rosemary & Lauren wish you a safe and Happy Easter this weekend.
Rosemary has been gradually getting back in the swing of things with painting, custom work, & more. As you can see, Rosemary is wearing a brace on her wrist and is painting, but at the same time taking it easy. Rosemary has three weeks with this removable brace. So, if you have any custom work that needs to be done at the shop, now’s the time to do it.
I just took this picture of Rosemary with this custom table that is being worked on for a long time client. The finished piece will be posted soon.
Friends and family of Sow’s Ear Studio, I’m happy to announce that Rosemary’s cast came off on Tuesday April 15, 2014. Now she has to wear a removable brace for three weeks. Rosemary show’s off her cast sock while she takes a break from this new brace. Thank you friends for being so patient and understanding while Rosemary recovers from her broken wrist and surgery. Rosemary has been painting a little bit and letting her wrist heal properly.
Rosemary has been back in the shop now for a couple of weeks with the cast on her wrist and has been painting a little bit everyday. Rosemary is currently working on a vintage coat rack for a long time customer. Rosemary’s progress with her wrist is getting better with time and hopefully, April 15th 2014, the cast will be coming off. We’ll let you know what happens next with Rosemary’s wrist.
I finally took the plunge and decided to open an etsy shop that’s dedicated to giving to a local hospital near the shop, Ellis Medicine. As you all know, my father suffered a heart attack one year ago and is doing very well. When my father was at Ellis, the doctor’s, nurses, and staff took good care of him. I’ve been talking with mom about doing this & she loved the idea. So now, I’m creating heart brooches and heart pendants. 50% of the proceeds are going to Ellis Medicine. For further details about this wonderful etsy shop, stop by http://www.etsy.com/shop/HeartsForHealersShop.
When they said this morning that the temperatures were gradually climbing, they weren’t kidding. At 3:00p.m. I decided to see what it was like outside while we were working. I opened the door and to my surprise, it was nice outside. It’s a little warm and breezy, but not too breezy. We kept the door open for 9 minutes and decided to close it because we felt a draft. Spring has definitely sprung & Rosemary & I couldn’t be happier. Keep your eyes open for new spring items in our shop, spring and summer events, and more. Stay tuned.
These handcrafted, polymer clay clocks have been in the shop since Lauren started off as assistant manager. They’re made with scrap polymer clay that Lauren used when she was making beads, and other items for her jewelry. Lauren would love it if these clocks went to a good, loving home. They’ve got new batteries and they’ve been sitting in this spot for a little while. Stop by Sow’s Ear Studio & ask Rosemary & Lauren for details about these wonderful, polymer clay clocks.
Winter was tough this year. We had lots of snow, closed the shop a little bit because of the bad weather, worked on lots of things for the shop, and so on. Rosemary & Lauren are so ready for spring. Rosemary came back for the first time after being out after surgery on her wrist. She took the Christmas lights off the banister, and put the forsythias on the banister for spring. Spring is slowly coming to Sow’s Ear Studio with new items, freshening up the shop, and by summer, Rosemary & Lauren are going to be adding stuff to their etsy shop. Think spring, be happy, the warm weather is on it’s way.
After two full weeks of being home, reading e-books, playing Candy Crush Saga, & just resting the wounds, Rosemary is starting to come back. After telling Lauren, I can’t stand being at home anymore, I said okay, just don’t work yourself to hard. Rosemary will be in here, until the cast comes off. Stay tuned for Rosemary’s progress.
Hello near & dear friends of Sow’s Ear Studio. Just to let you know that Sow’s Ear Studio was CLOSED yesterday because Rosemary got her stitches out from her surgery & a new cast on her arm. Although being limited to what she can do right now, Rosemary is on the mend & on her way to a full recovery. Rosemary’s cast is on for 4 weeks & is not able to work outside the shop, she’s still able to do small things, such as writing & painting a little bit. We’ll fill you in on her progress.
Happy Friday friends. Just to let everyone know, due to a broken wrist, Rosemary had surgery on her left wrist one week ago today. She’s doing well, but she’s not able to write, draw, or paint with her left hand until the surgeon says it’s okay to do so. If you’d like to book an appointment with her, when she’s well again, you may do so by dropping an email at email@example.com Sorry for the inconvience, but she’s out of commission for a little while.
In the meantime, Lauren has been running the shop & taking messages for Rosemary until she’s able to work again. Please understand, that until she’s able to work outside the shop again, she’s gonna be in here doing painted furniture soon. I hope that everybody has a nice, pleasant weekend & THINK SPRING!
Sow’s Ear Studio is getting back in the swing of things after being closed withe massive snow storm we had & President’s Day weekend. Long time client Lois Rowe stopped by to say hello to Rosemary & Lauren & dropped off a milk jug that is in need to be painted. Part II of this enourmous milk jug will be revealed soon.
Normally, we would have everything open at the shop, but not today. Today it’s snowing, nasty, & miserable out. Mom & I are working on projects for the shop & spending time with Ginger & Magic. Sow’s Ear Studio will be back open tomorrow as usual. Stay safe, keep off the roads, & keep warm today.
Rosemary’s outside job took her to a beautiful country club. Rosemary finished the country club & the customers were very happy. While Rosemary was working at the country club, these enormous mirrors were dropped off at the shop. Here’s Rosemary working hard on these mirrors so they can go back to the country club.
Rosemary is a great artist in every way. When it comes to baby creations, Rosemary goes the extra mile. This cute high chair (which is a decoration) was purchased by mom & dad in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Rosemary took the time to paint peeken ducks, cherries, & everything baby on this chair. See what Rosemary can do for your nursery in your home today. Rosemary has done toy chests, bookshelves, & lots of other great things.
The weather forecast called for snow, about an inch or two. Well with the way it’s snowing, it feels more like a blizzard & the temperature has mom working with her jacket & me crocheting on top of the heater grate. Sow’s Ear Studio would like to know if you’re ready for spring, because we’re ready for spring. Drop a comment here, Facebook, or on WordPress.
Rosemary is well known for painted furniture & accessories, but did you know she’s well known for gifts for kids. This huge piggy bank was brought in by new clients & Rosemary did her magic. Made with a lot of girly colors, this piggy bank is a winner. Piggy bank was completed over the weekend & will be ready to go home.
Well, thanks to local people of the capital region, Sow’s Ear Studio was able to collect 52 boxes of diapers for SICM. Rosemary & Lauren are filled with joy to be able to this for single mothers & mothers that are not able to afford to buy diapers. Sow’s Ear Studio was not aware of the fact either that you’re not allowed to buy diapers with food stamps. We feel good that we helped others out this holiday season. See the diaper drive at Sow’s Ear Studio for next year.
52 diapers collected from local people. Thanks for your help.

Custom work is Rosemary’s big thing, even when she spends time with her daughter in the shop. Rosemary’s big client brought this lovely bookshelf in for a new grandbaby. The client wanted a woods theme on the bookshelf. Rosemary did her magic and these are the winning results. Rosemary pulled out all of the stops with owls, birch trees, leaves, and much more. This is a picture of Rosemary painting the owls on the side of the bookshelf.
The bookshelf was completed and varnished today. Rosemary’s client was thrilled when she saw the results of the bookshelf. The client wanted to put the shelves on when they brought it home.
The bookshelf has a mommy, daddy, and baby boy on each side. No woods is complete with a deer on each side as well. See what Rosemary can do for your little one this winter.
Sow’s Ear Studio would like to give a warm welcome to the founder, Rosemary Prock. Happy Birthday Rosemary, you’re the best. Sow’s Ear Studio is currently working on getting our etsy shop underway. If you love our shop, but are not local, stop by our etsy shop.
Purchase a piece of furniture, painted accessory, jewelry, & much more. Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year, and looking forward to 2014.
Rosemary & Lauren hope that all of our beloved customers, friends, & family of Sow’s Ear Studio had a wonderful holiday. We hope that you had a wonderful meal, good laughs, and much more. Rosemary & I were discussing our New Year’s Eve Hours for next week. This is what we discussed for our hours for New Year’s Eve.
It’s always a last minute thing at Sow’s Ear Studio. Can you paint something for my grandchild for the holidays? This cute piggy bank was brought in on Saturday & the customer wanted her granddaughter’s name to be painted on it. Rosemary did just that & the customer came and picked it up & was thrilled with it. As you can see, Rosemary is painting the name on & adding some embellishments to it. Here’s the winning results to the award winning piggy bank.
